Psychic Ills - Might Take A While

thefader.com: Normally, when I think of the Psychic Ills, I think first of New York City, and then of the sort of enigmatic mentality whereby a group from that often fickle and fashion-bent town might wish to establish themselves as uncompromising purveyors of the endless jam. In this light, the title of their upcoming fourth LP, One Track Mind, makes sense, although this first missive from the album, with its twangy guitar line and back-up vocals from Royal Trux’s Neil Michael Hagerty, sounds kind of like straight-up, three-chord blues-rock if you ask me (note, also, that the cover art is by 13th Floor Elevators collaborator Powell St. John). Grab it February 19th via Sacred Bones.

Moon Pool and Dead Band

...bleak bit of retro-futurism from Wolf Eyes’ Nate Young’s Moon Pool and Dead Band. Accompanied by Sights/SSM man Nate Shettler, Young here sculpts nocturnal minimal synth loops with insistent techno beats, like John Carpenter with an icy Basic Channel-esque pulse. The synth textures are great throughout this record, with the duo taking their sweet time over developing gently throbbing and evolving tracks which aren’t hard work to listen to at all. The minimal feel really lets the synth tones breathe. It’s kind of warm sounding and melodic whilst also being quite creepy and ‘80s horror-influenced. Kind of an affectionate tribute to the era, I suppose. The cover painting is amazing, too. Beautifully detailed ‘80s dystopian fantasy shit with psychedelic colours. It perfectly complements the twitching, swirling, live synth and throb creepiness that lurks within. Bleak without being depressing..

Indian Jewelry

Excerpt from the new album Peel It out soon on The Reverberation Appreciation Society

The Reverberation Appreciation Society is releasing the new LP “Peel It” from Texas experimental rock legends Indian Jewelry.Indian Jewelry’s sixth and most adventurous work to date, PEEL IT sees the uncompromising Houston band venturing further into the darklands of noise, psych, dub, and experimental rock. The band remain flagbearers for the long Texas tradition of outsider rock ‘n’ roll, a grand, precarious history spanning the 13th Floor Elevators and Red Krayola, Jandek and Butthole Surfers. Tracks like “Eva Cherie” – streaming below – see Indian Jewelry tapping into the primordial consciousness through dissonance and drone, defying easy categorization with fractured melodies, whitenoise, and heavy rhythmic energy.
PEEL IT will be available digitally and on 12” vinyl in two versions: a regular pressing and a limited edition pressing of 500 180g 12” with deluxe packaging. In addition, a limited cassette will be released in partnership with Fullerton, California’s Burger Records.
